Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 30 min review

Welcome to the first 30 minute review. As a corporate gamer we rarely have time to play a game all the way through if at all, hence the 30-min review.

If a game can either hold my attention, or if I have time to play it for 30 minutes, I will post a review and recommend if you should buy it new, used, or not at all. Buying new shouldn't be a problem for any Corporate Gamer, but none of us wants to continue adding to our unplayed game library (44 and counting) so let' find out what you should be wasting that disposable income on right now!

Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 (PS3)

I played the PS3 version of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 since we all know that that controller is tits when it comes to fighting games.

After the obilgatory 1.5GB game install which only took 10 minutes as opposed to the normal hour for new PS3 games (DC Universe took like 3 hours), the game started with earnest. (I started the disc at 4:07pm on a Wednesday).

The intro video is filled with you standard Capcom craziness, making everyone look a lot cooler and angrier than they really are, but doing it in a mix of the SFIV and Comic Book style developed specifically for this game. Some of the intro matchups make sense (Dante vs. Deadpool!) some are appropriate for the series but weird (Ryu vs. Wolverine) and one is just stupid (Chris Redfield vs. the Hulk). However the whole thing is entertaining and definitely holds your interest for 2 minutes or so.

Racing through the menus (I only have 30 min ya' know) I started the offline mode to get an idea of how the game has evolved since the last time I played the arcade version of MvC2 at a anime convention in San Jose (for those who are wondering I got my ass handed to me).

Picking two of my favs (Ryu and Spiderman_ and one random, (Dr. Doom) I began the game in earnest watching the ever ticking watch as closely as my eyes could muster without being totally sucked in by the amazing graphics.

The action was fast, frenetic, and incredibly fun. Although I was rushing through the game as quickly as I could using the cheapest combos I could remember, I was never bored by the action, and the visuals in the background and foreground merged seamlessly for a pretty impressive presentation.

As I glanced at the clock on the cable box I realized I had reached the final boss (with no losses mind you) in approximately 12 minutes. Sweet! 3 minutes to spare to beat the game and have a perfect 30 minute corporate gaming experience. The final stage is as epic as any fan of Marvel comics would want it to be and the game definitely satisfies on many levels.

I can't wait for some time on the weekend to play the game for another 30 minutes and delve ever so slightly deeper into the wealth of characters, game modes, and fun that this title affords.

Corporate Gamer Recommendation: BUY!

Extra Bonus: For those of you who are wondering the final boss killed my two HERO characters and I finished the game with Dr. Doom. Not what I had planned, but interesting since Dr. Doom had a sinister plan all along to take over the Earth and potentially my game-playing experience. The 4th wall indeed has been broken. Deadpool has some new competition. Muhahahahahhaa!

Crysis 2 Multiplayer Drops Jan. 25 Exclusively on Xbox Live

Don't have a $3k gaming PC rig to enjoy the Crysis series? The wait is over. Crysis 2 multiplayer demo drops January 25, 2011 exclusively for Xbox Live Gold members.

The game looks gorgeous and the mix of abilities created by the Nanosuit seem to provide a pretty addictive multiplayer experience, that is going to keep us gamers pretty busy until the full version drops in March.

Split/Second - Review

Corporate Gamer Quick Hit - If you like Arcade Racers with Michael Bay production values and explosions thrown in this is the game for you. I give it a Corporate Gamer Recommendation of Buy!

Split/Second, as the name implies, is a edge of your seat racing thrill ride, made almost especially for the busy gamer on the Go.

The game throws you right into the mix with a throwaway plot synopsis based on the most "expensive reality show ever made" as an excuse to drive Supercars through your favorite disaster movie set pieces. Take any car chase scene from a Mission: Impossible, Alien Invasion, or (dare I say it) Bad Boys movie and it gives you a good idea of the visceral experience of playing Split/Second.

Special Effects aside, the driving in the game is solid if not sluggish at times, as it often feels as if your ride has to "rev up" at the beginning of most events, which conveys the sense of being taken on a ride more than driving your way through ridiculousness. Through a mix of drafting, drifting, and "jumping" (I use the term loosely since it's more like falling off of ramps), you earn the ability to let loose "power plays" which is the crux of the game's strategy.

Unleashing power plays literally destroys your opponents, opening new paths, and generally creating vehicular mayhem to allow you to blast to the head of the pack. It is essential to strategically utilize these power plays however since your computer controlled opponents are very unforgiving, and will not hesitate to use their own power plays against you. I can't count how many times I'm cruising comfortably in first place only to have a building explode and land on my car, hurtling me to the back of the pack in a vain attempt to destroy everyone all over again.

The game also includes a variety of modes that enables you to progress through the faux reality show seasons, including a helicopter attack (you have to dodge missiles from an attack helicopter), Big Rig Revenge (Think of the Big Rig Chase Scene in Terminator 2, except the truck is throwing exploding barrels at your car), and my personal favorite Detonation, where all of the explosions and events are automatically triggered, and your only real enemy is the clock and your nerves of steel.

This game is also very easy to pick up and put down, especially if you're working on a presentation, or need a quick 15-min fix to relax after a busy day. You can solidly log in 2-3 races within 20 minutes, and not feel to sucked in. For those of us who manage our days by the second, Split/Second will fit right into that precious downtime. Get it today!

GT5 Nights Trailer

Stuck in the office until after 6:00pm today?  Hate driving home after the sun goes down?  Maybe this will cheer you up and remind you what you are working for.

No not a Ferrari (well, maybe 5-10 years from now) but Gran Turismo 5!  Something you should easily be able to afford a few months from now.

Enjoy!
